Recommended prerequisites: Climate Change 101

The course provides a foundational background on climate change impact risks for businesses operating in Northern Manitoba.

This 60-minute course module will be delivered to business sector stakeholders involved in managing climate change impacts to their business operations in Northern Manitoba. Climate change training and guidance for business has to date almost exclusively focused on greenhouse gas mitigation, while climate change impacts and adaptation have received far less coverage and as a result, represent a fundamental knowledge gap among business stakeholders.

Furthermore, climate change impacts are often considered a future problem that will only truly escalate in several decades, in sharp contrast to businesses operations on annual, quarterly and/or seasonal time scales. However, the reality is that climate related impacts, severe weather events and seasonal shifts are already occurring, already resulting in increasing impacts to business operations and assets.

The module will therefore focus on providing an overview and foundational awareness of the range of anticipated climate induced impacts to business sector participants servicing Northern Manitoba, including impacts to business operations, health & safety, environmental compliance, financial exposure, legal liability, and reputational considerations.
